Chile's Sons and Daughters preparing for the year 2020. Will they be ready?

Perfection is what I think about when I hear the sound of the word, twenty-twenty. “2020″, when I see the number, perfection is what comes to mind, first and foremost. 2020, it comes to me as a vision of perfection. Yes, I dream the dream of the promise of the perfect year, 2020.

Where were we? Oh, will Chile’s sons and daughters be ready for the year, 2020? Of course they will be ready. There is no doubt we will be ready, is there?

Yes, Chile will be ready to meet the challenges and the excitement of the year 2020. That is my prediction for the year 2020 and Chile’s readiness to be a part of that world. No, by no means will it be perfect, but with a better education system, with equity and quality for all, it will be a much better world.

What world am I envisioning? Good question. The answer allows me to talk about education in Chile. Without the right education, the year 2020 will happen, and Chile won’t be prepared. Yes, we’ll still be a part of the world, only we probably won’t be as prosperous as the rest of the world.

What do I mean, “prosperous”? Am I talking about economics?

No, I’m using “prosperity” to talk about the full development of the human capacity that we have in Chile. You see, I don’t think any of the intellectual potential of Chile’s more than 16 million citizens should be lost. To use a cliché, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”.

However, I’ve held you in suspense long enough. Below is a vision of the year 2020. As you will see, it’s a world that requires a highly educated, technologically-savvy, continuously learning, global citizen. Enjoy the video(s)…

What will life be like in 2020?

“Can we fight poverty with connectivity?” asks Columbia University professor of economics Jeffrey Sachs.

Will Steffen, executive director of the ANU Climate Change Institute, “we are approaching a critical point where we our civilizations will either change, or collapse–like the Mayans and Romans before us.”

Ericsson’s chief marketing officer John Bergendahl, “broadband is changing society–the way we live, work, communicate, and exist.”

‘Futurist’ Anne Lise Kjaer, a self-described ‘future narrator,’ imagines a new way of doing business, and a new role for women in the workplace.
